LEARN - We love light bulbs. Especially when they suddenly appear above a child's head.

Trail Blazers support programs honoring teachers and recognizing schools for inspiring learning and raising achievement. The team has donated more than $500,000 to individual schools, surrounding school districts, the Portland Schools Foundation and the Oregon Department of Education over the past 10 years. Through the team’s partnership with SMART (Start Making a Reader Today) and the NBA Read to Achieve Program, the Trail Blazers and its athletes have donated nearly $300,000 to local literacy efforts and have donated over 40,000 books to students in preschool through high school across Oregon and southwest Washington.

Each year the Trail Blazers create special Reading and Learning Centers at deserving youth service facilities around the state. Organizations such as Friends of the Children, Po lice Activities League, Boys and Girls Clubs and the YMCA host Trail Blazers Reading and Learning Centers.

Thousands of Oregon and southwest Washington students are inspired to read each year through the Trail Blazers Read to Achieve Program. Players, coaches and staff visit schools throughout the season, invite students that reach their goals to special Read to Achieve celebrations at home games in the Rose Garden and host All-Star Reading Team parties at the team’s practice facility.
