Report: Trail Blazers Re-Sign Maurice Harkless

The final piece of the Trail Blazers' free agency puzzle looks to be in place, according to reports. Shams Charania of The Vertical reported Tuesday afternoon that the team and restricted free agent forward Maurice Harkless have agreed on a new contract ahead of the 2016-17 season:

The deal follows the prior free agent signings of Evan Turner and Festus Ezeli and the retainment of restricted free agents Allen Crabbe and Meyers Leonard, as well as a reported extension for CJ McCollum

Acquired last season from the Orlando Magic last summer for a protected 2020 second-round draft pick, Harkless proved to be a steal in 2015-16 for the Blazers. Though primarily a rotation player during his first season in a Portland uniform, a late-season surge saw Harkless cement himself as a starter in Terry Stott's system going into the postseason, where he averaged 11 points and 5.1 rebounds in 11 games versus the Los Angeles Clippers and Golden State Warriors. Harkless' posted averages of 6.4 points and 3.6 rebounds per game on 47.4% shooting from the field.

Harkless, 23, spent three seasons with Orlando, appearing in 201 games in that span. He was drafted 15th overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2012 NBA Draft following one season at St. John's.
