2008 Prospect Profiles | Return to Bobcats Draft Central
All kinds of changes about an hour away from the draft and we've got them here. See below.
June 25, 2008
The 2008 NBA Draft is less than 24 hours away and rumors are rampant around the association. Will Chicago take Derrick Rose? Will Miami draft and keep Michael Beasley with the No. 2 pick? Who will move up via trade in the draft? Who might move back or even out of the draft completely? The Bobcats made the first official move, grabbing a second first round pick from Denver at No. 20 and giving Charlotte the No. 9, 20 and 38 picks on Thursday night. Jermaine O'Neal is rumored to be heading to Toronto for T.J. Ford and the No. 17 pick. New Orleans is reported to be sending the No. 27 pick to Portland. And these are just the first of what could be a handful of moves in the next 24 hours.
Here at bobcats.com, we're following it all and keeping you updated. There have been changes in 13 of the 17 mock drafts we've been following the past few weeks and we've got those changes here. We're also giving our input now, adding mock drafts from myself, bobcats.com's Malinda Murray, Bobcats Television Play-By-Play Announcer Steve Martin and our fan blogger Gaither Jones.
That being said, here are the biggest changes we've seen in the past week:
June 18, 2008
The 2008 NBA Draft is now just over a week away, and with the deadline for early entrant candidates to withdraw their names from the draft now passed, there have been many changes in mock drafts around the web. Luckily for our fans, bobcats.com is here to keep you updated on the situation. Up until now, we've been following 15 mock drafts but have added two new mocks - the second one on ProBasketballNews.com and one from the folks at TheHoopsReport.com who sent us an email asking us to put them on the site so they could prove they have the best draft on the web. With a claim like that, we had to add them, so we'll see how it turns out.
There has been a ton of movement as of late, with changes to 11 of the 15 mocks we were following. In all, 22 of the 30 picks in our consensus mock draft have changed - so what have the biggest changes been?

Both Joe Alexander (14th overall) and Donte
Greene (15th) are ranked high in bobcats.com's latest consensus mock draft. |
Draft workouts are in full swing around the association with the 2008 NBA Draft now 16 days away, so that means plenty of movement in mock drafts around the Web. There have been changes in seven of the 15 mocks we are following since we last updated you, with most of the movement coming in the lottery, as eight of our 14 lottery picks have moved places.
We'll start with the Bobcats, where Danilo Gallinari is now slated in the consensus to wind up in Charlotte after falling back two spots to No. 9 overall. With Gallinari sliding, Anthony Randolph (up one spot) and Kevin Love (up two spots) now find themselves in a tie for the seventh overall selection.
We've also seen a change in the consensus at No. 3 and No.4, where O.J. Mayo has jumped to third overall and Jerryd Bayless slips down a place to fourth.
Russell Westbrook, D.J. Augustin and DeAndre Jordan all find themselves projected to go in different spots, with Westbrook moving up two places to No. 10 and Augustin and Jordan sliding one spot each to No. 11 and 12, respectively.
Joe Alexander, who was in Charlotte on Monday, remains at No. 14 overall, while Donte Greene (also in Charlotte with Alexander) is currently the first pick outside the lottery at No. 15.
So who is falling the most? Even though he remains at No. 5 in the consensus, Brook Lopez has fallen back two-or-more places in four of the seven mocks that made changes, so it will be interesting to see if his slide continues.
June 3, 2008
With the 2008 NBA Pre-Draft Camp having come to a close and individual player workouts scheduled to begin around the league Wednesday, there have been numerous changes in mock drafts around the Web. Of the 15 mock drafts bobcats.com is tracking, nine have made changes in recent days, causing a shakeup among lottery picks in our consensus.
It starts at the top where Michael Beasley and Derrick Rose are in a dead heat for the No.1 overall pick. Beasley has garnered more first-place votes (eight) than Rose (seven), but the folks at HoopsWorld.com have gone out on a limb and been the first to predict that Rose and Beasley won't be the top two picks in the draft. They've knocked Beasley down to No. 3 overall and moved Jerryd Bayless up four spots in their mock to No. 2.
Thanks in large part to HoopsWorld.com, Bayless moves up to the No. 3 spot in our consensus, while Brook Lopez has dropped back two spots to No. 5. ESPN's Chad Ford isn't the only one who thinks Lopez could fall to the Bobcats at No. 9 either, as NBADraft.net has Stanford's big man slipping to Charlotte with the ninth pick.
There have been other changes in the Top 14 as well, with D.J. Augustin moving up one spot to No. 10 and DeAndre Jordan bumping up a spot to No. 11. That means Russell Westbrook has fallen back two places from No. 10 to No. 12 in our consensus.
The biggest change aside from Bayless moving up comes later in the first round where Brandon Rush is climbing up multiple draft boards. He's gained two or more spots in five of the nine mocks that have made changes and jumps from the 21st overall pick up to the 19th.
So who is slipping the most? That distinction has to go to Nevada center JaVale McGee. He may have only fallen back one spot from No. 15 to No. 16, but five on the nine mocks with changes have him dropping back two or more spots - including CollegeHoops.net which has dropped him nine picks to No. 19 and HoopsWorld.com who has him falling back eight spots after having him slated as the fifth overall pick a week ago.

Could Brook Lopez or Jerryd Bayless fall to the
ninth pick for the Bobcats? |
We've had our Mocking the Draft section up for two days now and already there have been numerous changes in mock drafts around the web. With the 2008 NBA Pre-Draft Camp opening up in Orlando today, nine of the 15 mock drafts we are tracking have made changes to their predictions. Still, there has been little movement among the 14 lottery picks, with O.J. Mayo moving into the No. 4 spot overall and Jerryd Bayless slipping one place to No. 5. There is only one newcomer in the Top 14, where West Virginia's Joe Alexander has taken over the 14th slot and Syracuse's Donte Greene has fallen back two places to No. 16.
So where has the most movement taken place? Florida's Marreese Speights made the biggest jump in our first round consensus, jumping four spots from 24th up to a tie for 20th with Kansas' Brandon Rush. Speights also made the second-largest individual jump in any mock draft, moving up 44 spots on NBADraft.net after not even being ranked in the first two rounds in their first mock. Texas A&M's DeAndre Jordan made the biggest individual improvement in one mock, taking over the No. 13 spot on HoopsWorld.com after inexplicably being left out of their projections the first go-round.
HoopsWorld.com also had the most changes to their mock, as they appeared to finally get with the program. In their first mock, Jordan, Kosta Koufos, Chase Budinger, DeVon Hardin, Robin Lopez and Speights were all left out of their first round projections. They are all in now, while Pat Calathes, Tyler Smith, Blake Griffin, Sam Young, James Harden and Kyle Weaver have all dropped into Round 2 or out of their mock.
On the Bobcats end, UCLA's Kevin Love is still slated at Charlotte's No. 9 slot in our consensus, but two mocks have an interesting take on who might fall to the Bobcats. ESPN's Chad Ford thinks Stanford's Brook Lopez (No. 3 in the consensus) will slip to the ninth spot, while ProBasketballNews.com believes Arizona's Jerryd Bayless (No. 5 in the consensus) will be there when Charlotte picks.
We'll keep you posted as things continue to change through Pre-Draft Camp.
May 26, 2008
The 2008 NBA Draft will take place on June 26 in New York. After falling one spot in the 2008 NBA Draft Lottery, the Bobcats now hold the No. 9 and No. 38 picks in this year's draft.
There is a lot up in the air this season outside of the top two picks, where Derrick Rose and Michael Beasley are expected to go - although their order is in question as well. After that, it's anyone's guess, with more than a handful of guys projected to go in multiple orders over the course of the next 12 lottery picks. As we saw last season with multiple trades in the first round - including one by the Bobcats - a lot could happen in the next few weeks and bobcats.com is keeping you posted on mock drafts on the Web leading up to the big event.
The following are the consensus lottery picks of 15 mock drafts from around the Web, followed by the complete first round mock drafts we've come across already. Many of these mock drafts are posted by sites we followed last year, and you'll notice that we've also listed where each mock draft ranking in its accuracy last season (if applicable). Last year, DraftExpress.com and InsideHoops.com were far and away the most accurate mocks on the Web, so it will be interesting to see how close they can come in 2008.
Make sure to check back often, as we'll be updating these mock drafts and our overall rankings as often as needed heading into the 2008 NBA Draft.

Zack:
Thanks Guys this is awsome!!!!!!
felton8:
Anthony Randolph would probably be the one I'd most like to see them get if he's still there. In the second round the bobcats should get the point guard from Davidson.
reggie:
please FOR THE LOVE OF BASKETBALL, dont draft kevin love. we DESPREATELY NEED a DOMINANT force in the middle and not another UNATHLETIC forward.
coordinator0:
I'd take DeAndre Jordan or Anthony Randolph. With Brown as Head coach he'll focus on defense and Jordan could be a dominant defensive force in the paint. Randolph could be a offensive force if we go that route.
truthbtold21:
I would like to see us either pick up randolph, or jordan, both would fit what this team does, and i agree with reggie dont pick kevin love, thats like drafting sean may all over again.(nothing against may)
bobcat fan:
draft AUGUSTIN you have to felton needs a solid backup it wont be a pick you regret he will turn out to be a solid 6 th man maybe even starter draft AUGUSTIN
AaronV.NC:
WE need "DeAndre Jordan," man come on he is 7 foot. We need a center. Okafor hasn't proven himself.
Kasoy:
I think a Center or at a Point Guard position must the Bobcats pick....Hmmm in # 9 & 38 position... I'm hoping that this team will now compete in this next season playoffs... God Bless Charlotte Bobcats!!!
BustaCat:
Love would be a very nice addition, he's way more than just a slow big and "that point guard from Davidson", if you're referring to Stephen Curry, went back to school.
Fryrice10:
I agree with reggie DONT DRAFT LOVE get the best PF/C available or trade it away for a young vet like last year.
OnceNTexas:
I say the Bobcats need to go with a big man for down low presance, and who better than Kevin Love. Between him and Randolph he has better stats, key is his 50lb more than Randoplh so will his speed be slower. Either way we need a center to back up Oakafor, and get more boards this year.
birdy:
nathan jawai for number 1 pick. GO AUSSIE
ravage:
we need to get oj mayo!!!!!
AHart:
Thank God we have voices like Reggie's. Please, please do not draft Kevin Love. He is not (at all!) what we need. I like Anthony Randolph, but, honestly, trade the pick!
William:
I personally agree with what Reggie and Felton8 said, Bobcats don't need another unathletic forward as they already have Sean May. Me, as well... would like to see Anthony Randolph to get drafted by the Bobcats, he keep reminding me of Chris Bosh.
A_Novabobcat:
I hope that we pick up Sean Singletary in the second, he will be a sleeper pick. If you guys haven't seen the Predraft camp Singletary definitely improved from last years, even the announcers admitted it...as for the 1st round...man that's tough, we should try to trade up...I would LOVE for Brooke Lopez to slip to us, otherwise I have no clue who to choose.
Landon:
I trust Felton at the point, his work ethic is outstanding and he keeps a low profile off the court...Id like to see a dominate force down low to help out Emeka Okafor or even a trade out of the first round to pick up one of the dozen stars heading to free agency this year.....such as Antawn Jamison, Allen Iverson, Elton Brand, Corey Meggette,or Jermaine Oneal. But I do understand the salary cap is not as large as it was last year at this time.
Elton Morris:
It would be nice if Brook Lopez fell to us. but that probably won't happen.
iceman:
I think the bobcats should draft Darrel Arther to compliment Okafor in the post. He is a good defender and more versatile than Okafor. His versatility would allow him to guard the more mobile 3pt shooting PF in the NBA.
TonyBelk:
Anthony Randolph or DeAndre Jordan!!! Kevin Love Stinks
Ross:
I think the bobcats should draft Kevin Love. They need a man that will crash the boards and yet still shoot.
MattA1c:
DO NOT DRAFT KEVIN LOVE!!! He isnt NBA ready, and I dont know how he would match up against players who have been in the league with some experience. He kind of reminds me of robert swift from Sea.
t610ji88:
Bobcats need a center. There are lot sof choices like DeAndre Jordan, Kosta Koufos, JaVale McGee (son of a WNBA star), Roy Hibbert (senior) or if lucky enough you can get Brook Lopez or Kevin Love. By the way, is Kevin Love really unathletic? He can be a center but he's undersized. I thinkyou don't need Anthony Randolph but he's got the height...really
reeon12:
Brandon rush should go higher in the draft seeing how he won it all
bobcatssuperfan:
PLEASE draft randolph if he's there! he's got all-star all over him, after a couple years in an nba weight room.
UNCballer:
Draft kevin love. Or a better option is to trade the pick for Charlie Villanueva and sign a free agent PG like chris duhon
BR2850:
These year is an easy choice. Choose Anthony Randolph or Jerryd Bayless.
Sam:
Anthony Randolph is the man for the Bobcats!! If we don't get him, at least don't get Kevin Love please don't!
Ross:
I think hte bobcats need to either sign or trade up for some veteran leadership such as Chauncey Billups of Detriot after hearing that they need some big changes needed.
lakers/bobcats:
Draft D.J. Augustin
kt89:
definetly go with kevin love he is the best for your team he will the superstar on your team for years to come
SPIDA:
Yo man draft a big man. For real. Thank God we got Larry Brown. Good job Jordan.
Albezy:
I think if you want Jarred Bayless or Brook Lopez then you should make a trade that includes Emeka Okafor because he's really been a bust for you guys since he came in trade him to at least the 5th pick with the Memphis grizzlies I mean look how easily they gave up Pau Gasol MJ just trade your pick and Emeka for there pick and Mike Miller or something.
fan:
hey BustaCat he's talking about Jason Richards not Curry and Richards was a sr. who led the league in assists. Draft Darrell Arthur he's a do everything forward with an Amare Stoudemire skillset and Emeka is a center anyway
Jayhawks:
Bobcats should go Lopez if he falls that far if not go arthur or a pg. Felton wont cut it. I say draft Arthur because he is the best scoring postplayer in the draft and trade back in the draft l8 in the 1st round. im sure sum1 will take morrison 4 a late pick Then draft Mario Chalmers to go with arthur and your set
Alex:
i think the bobcats need to go after anthony randolph, deandre jordan, russel westbrook, or brook lopez, and if jerryd bayless falls to the 9 then get him. Randolph, Jordan, and Lopez would help with the size which the bobcats are lacking. Westbrook would be a great backup for raymond felton, so would Jerryd Bayless. DO NOT draft Kevin Love because he is not an athletic player, and the bobcats are all athletic. In the second round look for wayne ellington IF he stays in the draft, but lets all hope he goes back to UNC
Reggie:
hey, why dont we trade our pick and sean may/adam morrison (neither has proven themselfs) to the pacers for jermaine o'neal. that would give us a dominate force inside and a dominate defensive player
bighoppe:
We need to make some trdes in the offseason and fast. we have guys on are team that can be trade bate.
HiHeat01:
Bring in LEEMIRE GOLDWIRE. Lee is an unselfish warrior who NEVER stops battling for his team and teammates. I've never seen a player work as hard as him. As a local guy with the Charlotte 49ers, they would have been lost without him. He can shoot with anyone and anywhere...ANYTIME. He's quick enough and plays tough D to be a great compliment to Felton at the point. Did I mention that he is LETHAL from deep. DRAFT LEEMIRE GOLDWIRE!!!!
Jubal:
Trade down and pick up Serge Ibaka or Nico Batum.
J-Rich=Beast:
This looks good... PG-Felton, SG-Richardson, SF-Wallace, PF-Okafor, C-DeAndre Jordan... Then use our 2nd-round pick on Sean Singletary
MySoulWearsOrange:
The Bobcats do NOT need a center. If we draft a center then we will have to put Okafor at the 4. We all saw last year how he handles that. He can be a dominate force inside if that's exclusively his job, but he is not quick enough to guard the perimeter. Either draft Anthony Randolph or Russel Westbrook. They are ideal choices, exactly to what we need. I beg you, for every Bobcats fan, either trade the pick or take Randolph or Westbrook. Do NOT take Kevin Love- we have one, and his name's sean may.
fred:
NO GETTING LOPEZ OR LOVE WOULD BE LIKE TAKING SAM BOUIE ALL OVER AGAIN. GET DEANDRE JORDAN OR TRADE FOR JERMAINE ONEAL OR KENDRICK PERKINS!!!
