Cavaliers teammates Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Ira Newble along with strength and conditioning coach Stan Kellers and assistant strength and conditioning coach C. J. Stamates gave 25 third grade students from R.G. Jones Elementary School in Cleveland some valuable lessons on the importance of physical fitness to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
As a reward for participating in the team’s “Fit As A Pro” program, the students got a firsthand look at the Cavaliers weightroom and practice court where the team works out and practices regularly to stay in top-notch physical condition. The students earned this once-in-a-lifetime experience by completing a different fitness challenge each week during the month of March.
The players gave students a tour of the weightroom and demonstrated several exercises as the students’ counted out loud the number of repetitions. The students then did their own brief warm-ups and quick circuit routines and were shown several exercises they could do at home on their own. The players answered questions, gave out posters and signed autographs. The lucky students were also surprised with tickets to the Cavaliers' regular season home finale on Thursday, April 19th vs. the Boston Celtics.
Fit As A Pro is presented in association with Smith’s Dairy.
