Former Cavalier Makes The Call To Fans To Donate Old Cell Phones To Raise Funds For DVC
Scott Williams Teams Up with Cavs and Alltel to Stay Connected to Cleveland’s Domestic Violence Center
CLEVELAND, Apr. 3rd - Former Cleveland Cavalier Scott Williams has teamed up with the Cavs and Alltel Wireless to stay connected to the community by collecting old cell phones. Williams, now the FSN color analyst for Cavaliers broadcasts, is asking fans to donate their old cell phones to benefit the Domestic Violence Center (DVC) in Cleveland. For each cell phone collected, Alltel Wireless will donate 50 cents to the DVC. All funds raised for DVC will go towards renovating their shelter for women and children.
The cell phones will be collected at the remaining regular season Cavaliers home games at Quicken Loans Arena on April 4th vs. Philadelphia, 13th vs. New York and the 19th vs. Atlanta.
Participating Alltel locations will also be collecting the phones through the month of April. The cell phones will be sent to Ecosmart who refurbishes and recycles phones to raise funds for various charities.
“Cleveland is fortunate to have an organization such as the Domestic Violence Center, and I am fortunate to be in the position to bring attention to the important work they do and help support their efforts,” said Williams. “I appreciate the Cavs and Alltel’s partnership in this cause, but it will be the fans that will truly make this collection a successful fund raising campaign for DVC.”
"We are proud to support the Domestic Violence Center and encourage our customers to join us in this effort,” said Ken Erdmann, vice president of retail services for Alltel Wireless in Ohio.
Cleveland’s Domestic Violence Center is committed to a comprehensive approach to ending domestic violence and fostering peaceful relationships. DVC provides both immediate and long term services to men, women, and children affected by domestic violence, offering 24-hour accessibility and comprehensive, coordinated programs and services. The agency also provides education to many groups and schools to raise awareness, teach the signs of domestic violence as well as intervention techniques.
