24 Seconds With…Jordan Farmar

Rowan Kavner

This new weekly series from Clippers.com features a Q&A with Clippers players, coaches, alumni or those tied somehow to the Clippers’ organization. The next edition features guard Jordan Farmar.

PLAYA VISTA, Calif. – In a close game Monday, Jordan Farmar hit a 3-pointer at the end of the first quarter and scored the first seven points of the second quarter to give the Clippers a 36-32 lead against the Pistons they’d hold onto the rest of the night.

Farmar’s six made field goals and 15 points were both season-highs for the backup point guard, who also tied a season-high with 23 minutes played.

“I’m just trying to be aggressive, man,” Farmar said. “Got some good opportunities, and shots went down for me.”

He spoke more after Monday’s win about taking advantage of the chances he gets.

What did it mean to you to have this kind of game?

JF: “I just needed to try to find a way to get more comfortable and get (my teammates) more comfortable with me and build as we go. It’s a long season. I’ve been really trying to fit in.”

It wasn’t just the scoring. Doc Rivers mentioned how well you played defensively.

JF: “That’s one thing he’s always harping on, so really just trying to do that. If I get beat, I get beat. But I’m trying to put some pressure on the ball, and hopefully my teammates have my back and can disrupt them a little bit.”

How much did it help you to get in a groove getting some minutes in the first quarter?

JF: “It helps a lot. Repetitions are what it’s all about, opportunity in this league. Everybody, for the most part, can play. It’s just about being comfortable, being out there and finding your groove, finding yourself. I was able to do that tonight.”

It took Darren Collison a little time to get going and he had a good year. You talk to him at all?

JF: “Yeah, a little bit. When we played them, I talked to him a little bit. He came over and said a few things. We played together in college, so we know each other well. I’m happy for him, he’s doing really well. He fought through adversity.”

Does a night like this change things for you?

JF: “We’ll see. Just try to do what I can do, be aggressive and confident just playing my game.”

You had the back injury not too long ago. Ever wonder if this kind of night would come?

JF: “No, never, man. I’ve been playing long enough. My game’s always been good enough everywhere I’ve been in the world, so I’ll continue to work. It’ll happen. There’s ups and downs. You can start off really hot and go through a negative slump later. It just happens. You can’t get too high or too low in this league. You really have to believe in the work you put in and what you’re able to do out there.”
