Clippers’ Super Bowl Predictions

Rowan Kavner

SAN ANTONIO – Head coach Doc Rivers uttered “17” as he walked away from his press conference after Saturday night’s win.

Anyone who missed his pregame press conference wouldn’t have understood. Even those who did attend may have needed a second to realize that’s how much the former Boston Celtics coach thought the Patriots would win the Super Bowl by.

“Did I predict exactly what was going to happen last year? I said it was going to be a blowout by Seattle,” Rivers said. “New England’s going to win, and it’s not going to be as close as people think. That’s all I’m going to say.”

Rivers joked about having something on this one with owner Steve Ballmer, a Seattle native and huge Seahawks fan, and that it’s going to be a shame when the Patriots pull it out.

He also wasn’t the only member of the Clippers’ organization to put in his two cents. The Clippers chimed in Saturday night with their predictions on which team would win the Super Bowl, from the most die-hard fans to the more casual ones.

Some of the answers were obvious, including those from Seattle natives Spencer Hawes and Jamal Crawford. Hawes was able to attend the Seahawks’ Super Bowl win last year, but with a game across the country in New York on Monday, that won’t be the case this year.

“I think obviously you give (Patriots coach Bill) Belichick two weeks to prepare, you get a little anxious,” Hawes said. “But I think it’s kind of the same thing with Pete Carroll and the way he sets up his defense. It’s going to be a good matchup.”

Here were the full results of the predictions of the winner for tonight’s much-anticipated matchup, apart from the answer of DeAndre Jordan, a die-hard Cowboys fan who jokingly picked the Cowboys.

Seahawks                                                                                           Patriots

Spencer Hawes                                                                                 Doc Rivers

Jamal Crawford                                                                                Chris Paul (he’s a fan of Tom Brady)

C.J. Wilcox                                                                                           Blake Griffin

Matt Barnes (who added it’s going to be close)                            Ekpe Udoh

Glen “Big Baby” Davis                                                                       J.J. Redick

Dahntay Jones                                                                                 Austin Rivers

                                                                                                             Sam Cassell

There you have it.

The more intense fans may be on Seattle’s side, but while it’s almost split down the middle among the Clippers, a couple coaches tip the predictions slightly toward New England’s side.
