Summer League Practice Recap: Day 3

Steven Esparza

ORLANDO – The third day of the Clippers’ summer league preparations began with a film session, as the team gathered around head coach Brendan O’Connor and received instruction while looking at tape from the previous two days of practice.

The 30-minute study session was instrumental in helping the coaches address areas of improvement for the players as well as highlighting their strong points. After film, Coach Dave Severns broke the team into groups of seven and had them perform shooting drills from the top of the key and at the elbows.

Once those drills finished, Severns had teams of two players alternate shots. Guards took shots from the perimeter, while big men took shots from inside the paint. Once the shooting drills were over, O’Connor had the team go over different play calls and sets.

The two-hour practice was highlighted once again by the blue team facing the white team. This time, only one game was played and the blue team won a closely contested battle, 8-7.

When asked about the team’s preparations leading up to the start of games, O’Connor said, “I’m looking forward to our first game tomorrow. Our guys have had a great mini-camp so now it’s time for us to go out and see how we do.”

With the three day mini-camp wrapped up, the only thing left for Los Angeles to do is wait for tip-off tomorrow afternoon against the Orlando Magic’s Blue squad.
