Vinny Del Negro was named the 17th head coach in franchise history on June 11, 2008.

He spent two seasons with the Phoenix Suns front office, serving as Director of Player Personnel for one year, before being promoted to Assistant General Manager prior to the 2007-08 campaign … worked three seasons (2003-06) as a color analyst for the Suns broadcast teams … he has also served as an analyst for ESPN’s “NBA Matchup” and for the San Antonio Spurs.

Del Negro played professional basketball for 14 seasons, including 12 years in the NBA and two years in the Italian A1 League … while in the NBA, he played for five different teams (Sacramento, San Antonio, Milwaukee, Golden State and Phoenix) and appeared in 771 games, and averaged 9.1 ppg, 3.2 apg and 2.3 rpg … played in 54 NBA playoff games, where he averaged 8.8 ppg, 2.8 apg and 2.2 rpg … among some of the coaches he played for in the NBA were: Dick Motta, Bob Hill, Gregg Popovich, and George Karl … he was drafted by the Sacramento Kings (29th overall) in the 1988 NBA Draft … spent two seasons in Italy with Benetton Treviso (1990-92) … he lead the team to its first Italian League championship in 1992 and was named playoff MVP … during his two seasons with Benetton, he appeared in 65 games and averaged 25.4 ppg and 4.4 rpg … was a member of the Spurs for six seasons (1992-98) where he holds the franchise record for consecutive free throws made (50), and was selected to San Antonio’s 25th Anniversary Team as one of the top 25 players in Spurs history, after helping San Antonio claim two Midwest Division titles … played with Milwaukee from 1998-2000… was traded to Golden State before moving on to Phoenix where he retired in 2001.

He played four years at North Carolina State under the late Jim Valvano … finished his Wolfpack career with averages of 9.1 ppg, 2.9 rpg and 2.6 apg … helped the Wolfpack make the NCAA Tournament four years in a row, highlighted by two trips to the Elite Eight (1985, 1986) … claimed the Everett Case Award, as the MVP of the 1987 ACC Tournament, and led NC State to the Tournament championship in his junior year … named All-ACC First Team his senior season after averaging 15.9 ppg, 4.9 rpg and 3.6 apg, and he shot .515 from the field and .839 from the line … had his NC State jersey retired in 2001.

Del Negro, 42, was born in Springfield, Mass., on Aug. 9, 1966 … his full name is Vincent Joseph Del Negro … he established the Vinny Del Negro Endowment Fund in Springfield to assist physically abused youths … his father, Vin, played collegiately at the University of Kentucky under the legendary Adolph Rupp … he is married to wife Lynn, whom he met at North Carolina State.
