Cristal Garcia is no stranger to the game of basketball. She is in her fourth season with the Thunderbirds and looking forward to the 2008 - 09 season. She was a fan favorite as a starting shooting guard for the University of New Mexico Lady Lobo basketball team before joining the Thunderbird family. During Cristal’s senior year at U.N.M the team reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament for the first time in school history. After Cristal’s days at U.N.M she worked for the Governor of New Mexico as a state representative with Sports Authority, where she helped oversee athletics coming to Albuquerque.
In 2007-2008 Cristal participated in the Los Angeles Sparks (WNBA) open try-outs where she made it through to the second round. Her dream of playing professional basketball is still alive today.
Cristal decided to join the Thunderbirds because it was her way to continue to stay involved with the sport that she has a passion and love for! Cristal hopes that working in the Development League will help her move toward becoming the President of a team, or even move into the NBA in an upper-level management position.
