Jam Visits Summer School Camp Programs

Swish Creates Fun Atmosphere in Class

(Bakersfield, Calif., June 16, 2008) – The Bakersfield Jam staff and Swish made visits to three Schools in the Panama-Buena Vista Union School District (PBVUSD), highlighting the Summer Camp programs of each school.

The schools visited were Berkshire Elementary, Williams Elementary and McAuliffe Elementary, and Jam Account Executive, Rolly Uclaray and Swish were received with enormous applause and warmth from the summer school students. The students were able to learn more about the Jam team, and they also had the chance to play basketball with the most famous kit fox in the valley!

Diane McConnell, Director of Day Care and Library Services for PBVUSD summed up the visits by saying, “Our Day Camp students were extremely excited to have a visit from Swish and Rolly. The highlight of our visit was actually shooting hoops with Swish! Thank you so much!”

The visit is part of the ongoing efforts of the Jam organization’s community involvement and the NBA Cares program. Some of the recent activities include participation in Taft’s Jr. NBA/WNBA Skills Challenge, assemblies conducted at Greenfield Union School District for “Get Fit Week”, joining Buena Vista Elementary for Celebrity Reading Day, CALM’s 25th Anniversary, San Joaquin Hospital’s “Hospital Week” and more.

The NBA Development League is the NBA's official minor league, and the first-ever basketball league with direct affiliations to NBA teams. Having recently completed its seventh season, the NBA D-League’s goals are to provide affordable, NBA-caliber entertainment to fans of its 16 teams, as well as continue to develop players, coaches, referees and front-office personnel for the NBA. As the single source for in-season player "call-ups" to the NBA, fans of the D-League enjoy the highest caliber of basketball played outside the NBA. In fact 15 percent of players on 2008 end-of-season NBA rosters spent time honing their skills in the League. In addition, it has produced current NBA coaches and 25 percent of the NBA’s referees. The NBA D-League is an innovative and rapidly growing sports property that also serves as an experimental testing ground for new initiatives like NBA Futurecast, the live web-streaming of all games available free at nba.com/futurecast. The League also provides continuing education and professional development resources for its players, and is committed to serving its local communities through D-LEAGUE CARES and grassroots efforts.
