I’ll make it short and sweet.

The pick for Sunday is Delonte West.

The Cavs-Celtics seventh and deciding game is the only contest on Sunday’s slate, and West is the only viable Cavalier left for your Experts. It’s sad when you don’t even have Wally to fall back on (by the way, thanks a whole bunch for that 14 PRA the other night buddy. Way to assert yourself.). West is the only Cav remaining that averages more than 12 PRA, though his 17.9 PRA average doesn’t exactly inspire much confidence, nor does his 15 PRA performance Friday night in 45 minutes of play. Still, with Daniel Gibson out, West is a logical choice to pick up offensive opportunities and minutes, and he’s certainly capable of turning in a strong game.

West is also my only choice for Sunday because I believe the Celtics are going to win. Part of this reasoning is because I’m a born-and-bred Celtics fan, and cannot even entertain the prospect of my beloved 66-win Heroes in Green bowing out of the playoffs in the second round. A more logical side of my brain however knows that road teams have won exactly two games in this round, and the Celtics have looked downright unstoppable at the Garden so far in the playoffs. By picking a Cav, I’m hopefully throwing a little karmic goodness behind my hometown team. Also, I really don’t want my neighborhood to riot.

The plot thickens however if you think the Cavs are going to pull Sunday’s game out. Frankly, after Friday’s bowling-shoe-ugly game from the Celtics, a Cavs win is a somewhat viable possibility. If that’s the case, then you’re downright obligated to pick a Celtic while you still have some left. Kevin Garnett has been the C’s unquestionable star this round, but if he’s not left, you’re forced to choose between the inconsistent Rajon Rondo, the suddenly-errant Paul Pierce, and the nearly deceased Ray Allen. Past Garnett, there’s not a sure thing in the bunch.

Whether you believe the Celtics or the Cavs will win, Sunday’s turning out to be a “hold your nose and try not to taste your medicine” sort of day for Drive to the Finals players. If the Cavs somehow pull it out, we Experts will have a lot more of that medicine to taste in the next round.

1. Kevin Garnett, BOS vs. CLE (34.0 PRA)
2. Rajon Rondo, BOS vs. CLE (21.6 PRA)
3. Joe Smith, CLE @ BOS (11.6 PRA)
Garnett is the obvious choice for those who are picking Cleveland on Sunday. His PRA is nearly ten better than any of his teammates, and he’s scored at least 25 in his last two games. The Cavs haven’t been able to find anyone who can match up with him defensively, giving KG free reign to post up and rebound when he wants to. Rondo is an interesting pick for those looking to go down a different Boston path – he’s been lights out at home in the playoffs, and had a PRA of 35 in the C’s home win in Game Six. Smith is simply there because I wanted to provide an option for those wanting to pick a Cav but who didn’t have LeBron, Big Z, Wally or Delonte left. He’s next on the Cleveland PRA pecking order with an 11.6 average, but he doesn’t play nearly enough minutes to give any sort of expectation of a big game.
