The Memphis Grizzlies snapped their losing streak against the San Antonio Spurs in triple overtime. The Grizzlies had not won at the AT&T Center since sweeping the Spurs in the 2011 playoffs.
Marc Gasol scored a team high 26 points, including a banked-in 3-pointer as regulation expired. Zach Randolph had 21 points and 21 rebounds. Vince Carter added a season-high 18 points, five of which were 3-pointers. Kosta Koufos finished with 16 points.
The Grizzlies started the game strong ending the first quarter 34-19. They led by as many as 23 in the second quarter but the Spurs rallied to cut the deficit to 10 points going into halftime. The Spurs hit a barrage of 3-point shots that cut the deficit to 71-68 towards the end of the third quarter.
The Spurs tied the game for the first time at 77 with 8:53 left in the game. Danny Green hit a 3-pointer to give the Spurs their first lead of the night 80-77. Mike Conley’s 3-pointer tied game at 89 with 7.2 seconds to go in regulation, but Green answered with a 3-pointer that put the Spurs up by 3 with 2.5 remaining. Gasol banked in a 30-footer against Manu Ginobili as time expired to send the game into overtime.
Green collided in midair with Courtney Lee on an outlet pass, giving Memphis a 5-on-4 situation that resulted in Gasol's layup that tied the game at 102 with 9.3 seconds left. Ginobili missed a 7-foot running jumper to end the first OT.
Lee hit a clutch 3-pointer to put Memphis up 111-109 with 2.6 left to go. Tim Duncan hit a fallaway, high-arcing jumper that bounced on the rim three times before dropping to tie the game at 111 sending the game into a third overtime.
The Grizzlies managed to outlast the Spurs to win the game in the third overtime.
