Memphis Grizzlies introduce the Grizzlies Riverfront Fitness Trail and Pop-Up Park at Grand Opening event set for Wednesday, Sept. 17 from 5-7 p.m.

The Grizzlies Riverfront Fitness Trail and Pop-Up Park, presented by BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, will debut its unique usage of green space along the western edge of Tom Lee Park Wednesday, Sept. 17 at a Grand Opening event from 5 – 7 p.m., the team announced today.

"The Memphis Grizzlies have been focused on improving the health and fitness of the Memphis community, particularly children, since our very first season,” said Diane Terrell, executive director of the Grizzlies Foundation and community investment. “The Riverfront Fitness Trail and Pop-Up Park is a fun next step in that journey, but one that remains rooted in our core principles of developing a healthier, more active Memphis for everyone."

The Grand Opening will be a collaboration of community partners demonstrating equipment and exercises including an appearance from Grizzlies center Kosta Koufos and President of Business Operations Jason Wexler. The multi-stakeholder project was brought to concept this summer and will come to fruition at the Grand Opening, set to feature the Grizzlies’ take on fun and fitness with appearances, food, Grizzlies inflatables, a DJ, face painters and balloon artists. Fans in attendance who sign up for Grizzlies E-News will receive a voucher for two tickets to Grizzlies preseason game.

Starting at 6:30 p.m., the Grizz Girls and their personal trainer will be on-hand to lead willing participants through a training session. Interested participants should meet at the stage at 6:25 p.m.. Presenting sponsor, BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, will provide trainers on-site to provide exercise education. Memphis Rowing will lead an urban rowing demonstration alongside the riverfront with the help of students from Soulsville Charter School. The fully-lined soccer court and double volleyball court will also play host to demonstrations led by members of the fitness community. Memphis-area children will be able to measure their height, weight and BMI at fitness kiosks, provided by the University of Memphis, when they register for the Grizzlies Fit Kids Club.
