Memphis, January 11, 2008 – The Stay in School Challenge, a program to combat truancy in two Memphis City Schools, is set to tip-off on Monday.

The Stay in School Challenge includes seventh and eighth grade students from Cypress Middle School and Vance Middle School. The Challenge will include 602 total students between the two schools.

To help get the students excited about the program, Grizzlies players Kyle Lowry and Hakim Warrick will join them at the tip-off event Thursday, January 17 at FedExForum, which will be attended by all the participating students and their teachers. The event will feature numerous contests between the two schools for the right to display a trophy for the remainder of the school year.

The Stay in School Challenge was developed in a partnership with the District Attorney General of Shelby County, Memphis City Schools, and the Memphis Grizzlies, all of whom are determined to positively motivate students to attend and actively participate in school. Lucite International is the presenting sponsor of the Stay in School Challenge.

This program aims to encourage and reward students for perfect attendance during two grading periods, which run from Monday, January 14 through Friday, April 4. Each student will receive awards for having a 95% or better attendance throughout each week and overall through the entire duration of the Challenge.

Prizes will include tickets to a Memphis Grizzlies home game, and each student will also have the opportunity to attend a special ceremony at Golf and Games Family Park and meet Grizzlies players if they maintain a 95% or above attendance record throughout the eleven-week program.
