Grizzlies re-assign Jordan Adams, Jarnell Stokes and Russ Smith to NBA Development League’s Iowa Energy

The Memphis Grizzlies re-assigned guard Jordan Adams, forward/center Jarnell Stokes and guard Russ Smith to the Grizzlies’ NBA Development League affiliate, the Iowa Energy, Grizzlies General Manager Chris Wallace announced today. This marks the fourth assignment to Iowa for both Adams and Stokes and the first for Smith, who had three prior stints this season with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants.

Adams (6-5, 209) averaged 22.3 points and 8.0 rebounds on .436 shooting in 34.7 minutes in three games in his most recent assignment to Iowa (Dec. 12-21). Overall, the 20-year-old has recorded 18.0 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.43 steals on .430 shooting in 32.0 minutes in seven games for the Energy this season, scoring in double figures six times and reaching 20 points three times.

The Atlanta native has recorded 2.5 points in 7.0 minutes in 11 games during his rookie season in Memphis. He was drafted by the Grizzlies in the first round (22nd overall) of the 2014 NBA Draft after two seasons at UCLA (2012-14).

Stokes (6-9, 263) averaged 12.0 points and 7.0 rebounds on .600 shooting in 26.5 minutes in two games during his third stint in Iowa (Dec. 19-21). Overall, the 21-year-old has posted 13.0 points and 7.3 rebounds on .577 shooting in 25.0 minutes in three games for the Energy this season, scoring in double digits two times and notching one double-double.

The Memphis native has averaged 2.1 points and 1.3 rebounds in 5.6 minutes in 16 games (two starts) during his rookie season for the Grizzlies. He was selected by the Utah Jazz in the second round (35th overall) of the 2014 NBA Draft after three seasons at the University of Tennessee (2011-14). Stokes then was traded to the Grizzlies on draft night for a 2016 second round draft pick.

Smith (6-0, 165) has averaged 15.1 points and 5.9 assists on .549 shooting in 24.9 minutes in seven games over three assignments for Fort Wayne, including five double-digit scoring efforts. The 23-year old totaled five points in 29 minutes in six appearances for the Pelicans this season and has yet to make his Grizzlies debut after being acquired by Memphis in a three-team trade with New Orleans and Boston on Jan. 12.

Drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in the second round (47th overall) of the 2014 NBA Draft, Smith was acquired by New Orleans in a draft night trade. The New York City native spent four seasons at the University of Louisville (2010-14) where he led the Cardinals to the 2013 NCAA Championship as a junior.
