Dennis Schröder Selected to BBVA Compass Rising Stars Challenge

ATLANTA -- Atlanta Hawks guard Dennis Schröder has been selected by the NBA’s assistant coaches to participate in the BBVA Compass Rising Stars Challenge during NBA All-Star 2015. This year’s contest will pit 10 first- and second-year players from the United States against 10 first- and second-year players from around the world. The game, set for Friday, Feb. 13 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, will be televised live by TNT at 9 p.m. ET.

“I’m thankful for the opportunity to represent the Hawks organization and Germany in the Rising Stars Challenge,” Schröder said. “It’s exciting that I will be able to play for Coach Kenny as he and the other coaches are a big part of the reason that I was selected.”

In his second NBA season, the 21-year-old guard is averaging 8.1 points, 3.3 assists and 2.0 rebounds in 17.7 minutes (.441 FG%, .774 FT%) and has appeared in 43 contests. In his five starts, he is putting up 11.6 points, 6.4 assists and 2.8 rebounds in 26.4 minutes (.479 FG%) and the Hawks are 5-0. Schröder has scored in double-figures 18 times, including one 20-point effort and recorded his first career double-double with 10 points and a career-best 10 assists at Cleveland (12/17), adding two rebounds in 22 minutes (4-6 FGs, 2-2 FTs).

The native of Braunschweig, Germany has increased his scoring (+4.4), assists (+1.4) and rebounds (+0.8) over his rookie campaign, while his shooting has risen by .06 from the floor and .10 from the foul line.

Schröder was selected by the Hawks in the first round (17th overall) of the 2013 NBA Draft.

Hawks assistant coach Kenny Atkinson will serve as head coach for the World Team. He is in his third season on Atlanta’s coaching staff.
