Dennis Schröder Named To Rising Stars World Team

Atlanta Hawks backup point guard Dennis Schröder has been named to the World Team for the Rising Stars Challenge at NBA All-Star Weekend in New York City.

Schröder has had a breakout season in taking over backup point guard duties after limited action is his rookie year.  He's averaging 8.1 points and 3.3 assists in 17.7 minutes during his 43 games played.  He has increased his FG%, 3FG% and FT% this season, and the Hawks are 5-0 when he starts.

Schröder is part of a deep bench that has brought energy and often picks up where the starters leave off.  Coach Bud hasn't felt pressure to overuse Jeff Teague because of what Schröder has been able to provide this season.

For the first time ever, the Rising Stars Challenge will consist of 10 first and second-year U.S. players against 10 first and second-year World players.  Hawks assistant Kenny Atkinson will coach the World Team.

Coach Bud and his staff (including Atkinson) have earned the right to coach the East All-Star team.  All-Star reserves are Thursday night, so there's a chance Schröder won't be the only Hawk in New York City.
