Atlanta Hawks Nominated For TAG's Business Champion Of Diversity Excellence Award

ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Hawks Basketball Club is among six nominees to receive Technology Association of Georgia’s Business Champion of Diversity Excellence Award at TAG’s Fifth Annual Diversity Leadership Awards celebration on Aug. 26. The event, held at The Buckhead Club in Atlanta, recognizes outstanding efforts by individuals who champion diversity and inclusion within their organizations, and by companies who have gone above and beyond to support diversity and inclusion practices.

“We are honored and humbled to be recognized by TAG for our work in the diversity space,” said Nzinga Shaw, Chief Diversity & Inclusion Officer of the Atlanta Hawks & Philips Arena. “The Atlanta Hawks Basketball Club continues to rebuild trust and partnership in the Atlanta community, emphasizing civility, sportsmanship, and human decency. We want to ensure that everyone can be a fan of the team and attend home games, but ultimately we aim to serve as a model for inclusion in the NBA.”

The Hawks have established themselves as industry leaders in diversity and inclusion, becoming the first professional sports team to appoint a CDIO, while also working with internal employees and key external stakeholders to create the NBA’s first diversity council. The Hawks & Philips Arena are currently in the process of developing a Women’s Inclusion Network, set to provide a forum for women to learn and grow professionally with input from prominent women in Atlanta.

The other finalists for TAG’s Business Champion of Diversity Excellence Award are Agile•1, Dress for Success Atlanta, Georgia State University, Koch Industries, and MarketSource.
