HEAT Head Coach Pat Riley

On the final play of the game:
“We ran a double high pick, Phons (Ellis) had a great second screen, (Anthony Carter) turned the corner and saw nothing but daylight.”

“We had an enormous number of opportunities. I thought Vlade (Stepania) had a big impact on the game in the third quarter with his rebounding and second shots. Brian (Grant) was steady and solid. It was enough to get a win.”

On the performance of Brian Grant:
“He’s there every night. He might not play well every night. When he doesn’t play well is when he gets frustrated with things and he gets out of himself. He’s definitely been our most valuable player this year.”

Upon learning that Caron Butler had tied the HEAT all-time rookie scoring record:
“He had a great year and all he has to look forward to is improvement and that comes from within. He’s had steady court time. He’s one of those guys you can count on showing up every night. We hope he keeps growing and keeps getting better.”

HEAT Forward Caron Butler

On tying the HEAT’s single-season rookie scoring record:
“It means a lot to me, to be one of the best rookies to ever play for this franchise. I’m going to get it now.”

On playing in Miami:
“The fans were great. No matter what happens out here, whether win, lose, or draw, the fans here are supporting us. I love Miami, I really do.”

On the game:
“It was going to be one of the tougher games. We are both desperate for a win. They came out hungry and we came out hungry. It was a dogfight. I just thank God that AC (Anthony Carter) came off that screen and dipped his shoulder and made the lay-up.”

HEAT Forward/Center Brian Grant

On the game:
“It’s nice to come home and get a win. I think both teams went out there knowing that we had a chance to beat one another. We had a tough run on the road. We just kept scrapping. I think in the first half our defense was pitiful. We came in at the half and talked about it and made a commitment to really defend.”

HEAT Guard Anthony Carter

On the game:
“When the game is on the line, and on the last play the lane is that wide open, someone did something wrong. Brian Grant and LaPhonso Ellis did a good job of setting the screen. Jerome Williams thought I was going to pass the ball and I just took it straight to the basket. I feel good about getting a win. Hopefully we can get the rest of these wins and end the season on a good note.”

Raptors Head Coach Lenny Wilkens

On the game:
“We lost the game. We worked hard, but we all made mistakes. I thought we played decent and it just didn’t go our way. I wanted to give some guys extra minutes. There was some confusion at times. I think we were in the game, but we didn’t capitalize on some opportunities.”

On the team’s shooting:
“I thought we were a little anxious. You’ve got to set up something and take a good look. We played hard and shot well in the first half. Our percentage just fell in the second half.”

On Rafer Alston:
“Rafer (Alston) got caught up with the referees. You just can’t do that. You lose focus in the game. Later in the game it became a problem. You need to have Alvin (Williams) or Rafer out with the less experienced guys. Alvin had to play more minutes when Rafer lost focus.”

Raptors Head Coach Lenny Wilkens

Career-high in minutes:

“I might catch a cramp tonight. It was a lot of minutes, I’m not used to that, I’m so tired, I’m not going to lie.”

On the game:

“It was disappointing, because I think we went out there and played hard. We had a lot of intensity the entire game and it was tough to see the game end the way it did.”

On the team's chemistry:

“We were feeling each other out throughout the game. I think it was a matter of being tired, wanting to push, but not having enough to push with.”

Raptors Forward Jelani McCoy

On the game:

“We came out pretty strong, we felt good. We had good energy, everyone was talking to each other on defense.”

“They (HEAT) beat us to a couple of loose balls on defense and they were that much more outstanding in the second half. They had a couple more shots than we did, and they got to a couple more loose balls at the end of the game which gave them extra possessions.”

Raptors Forward/Center Jerome Williams

On the game:

“Everybody was making a run for it in the second half. I guess it was their defense at the end of the game that secured the victory for them.”
