HEAT Head Coach Stan Van Gundy
“I thought our guys battled hard. I thought our guys were sloppy with the ball as were they. It was a sloppy game with a lot of turnovers. I was happy with the way we competed. I thought we got a lot of guys a lot of minutes. It was a positive night for us.” On the challenge of playing NJ in the first round: On if his wins against NJ earlier in the year means anything: On the impact of Richard Jefferson returning to NJ will have: On not having his full team healthy lately: On whether his team gains any momentum with the win tonight: "To tell you the truth, regardless of whom we have to play, everybody in this organization has had championship aspirations since the beginning of the season. My reason for leaving New Jersey was to come here and be part of a championship contender. To this day I am very confident about that. I am excited. Right now I may not show an excited look on my face, but come Sunday at 3:00pm, we are going to be on a mission. We have 16 games to win. Across the board, everybody in here understands their roles and responsibilities and what it is going to take to do that. We are going to have to make a lot of sacrifices. We have got to start making a statement with our defense. Everybody has underestimated us from the standpoint they feel we are a one-man team or a two-man team. We have enough ammunition in our gun to get through a whole gun fight. I am excited about the opportunity that we have in front of us.” “I had a long talk with Stan. He has coached me for eight years. He understands what I bring to the table. He knows what I am capable of doing. They would not have brought me here if they were not going to use me. I would not have come here if I did not have the understanding that they were going to use me and helping them accomplish this championship goal. I will do anything in my power by any means necessary, to help this team win. Come Sunday you will see a totally different person, because unlike a lot of guys in here…I have a totally different perspective on life. By going through the things I have had to go through personally, my approach to an opportunity like this is like it is my last…because it just might be my last.” “What has happened personally it happened with me and the New Jersey Nets is in the past. I don’t like to dwell in the past. My wife knows I don’t like to dwell in the past. I like to look forward. You learn from the past. You move on and I see so many great things happening to us in the near future.” “New Jersey is going to be as dangerous as we allow them to be. If we don’t come prepared New Jersey is going to be dangerous. If we come and play on both ends of the floor, I don’t see New Jersey being dangerous.”
On matchup vs. Jason Kidd: “We feel like when we are playing the type of basketball that we are capable of playing with a lot of intensity and a lot of energy on both ends of the court…then we are tough to beat whether we are home or away.” |
