The National Basketball Association officially welcomes the Miami franchise into
the NBA. Expansion franchises are also granted to Charlotte, Orlando and Minnesota. The HEAT and Charlotte begin play in 1988-89 while Orlando and Minnesota start the following season. |

Stu Inman, Director of Player Personnel for the Milwaukee Bucks, resigns to accept a similar position with the HEAT bringing to the franchise more than 18 years of personnel experience. |

The franchise reaches the NBA mandated figure of 10,000 season tickets. |
