Wade Named NBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week for Second Straight Week

MIAMI, February 12 – Miami HEAT guard Dwyane Wade was named the NBA’s Eastern Conference Player of the Week for the week ending February 11. This marks the second consecutive week, third time in the last five weeks and seventh time overall that Wade has earned Player of the Week honors. Wade has become the first HEAT player to win the award in consecutive weeks and also to capture the honors three times in a season. His seven Player of the Week honors also are a franchise record. This marks the 20th time in franchise history that a HEAT player has been named NBA Player of the Week. Denver’s Carmelo Anthony was selected as the NBA’s Western Conference Player of the Week.

Wade averaged 27.5 points, 8.8 assists, 4.0 rebounds, 2.50 blocks and 1.75 steals last week in leading the HEAT to a 3-1 record with home wins over the San Antonio Spurs and Charlotte Bobcats, a road win over the Boston Celtics and a road loss against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Additionally, he connected on 57.1 percent (40-70) of his field goal attempts and 80 percent (28-35) of his free throw attempts.

Wade recorded a double-double with game highs in both points (27) and assists (12) in the 113-93 win over Charlotte on Feb. 5. Two nights later he tallied 30 points, nine assists, six rebounds and three steals in a 91-79 triumph in Boston. He had 27 points and a game-high seven assists in the loss at Cleveland on Feb. 9. Yesterday in the win over San Antonio he scored 18 of his game-high 26 points in the fourth quarter as the HEAT recorded a 100-85 win over the San Antonio Spurs.

He led the HEAT in scoring and assists in all four contests and in steals, blocked shots and minutes three times each. Wade has now scored at least 20 points in a franchise-record 18 consecutive games and at least 25 points in seven straight games, tying his career high (one shy of the franchise record). Additionally he has led the HEAT in scoring in each of the past 10 games, tying as the second best mark in franchise history, and has topped Miami in assists in each of the past six games. Wade has also recorded at least one steal in his last 15 games, tying the fourth longest streak in franchise history and has recorded at least one block in each of the past eight games, the second longest streak of his career.

Through the first 51 games of the season, Wade leads the HEAT in scoring average (28.7 ppg), points (1,262), field goals made (420) and attempted (853), free throws made (402) and attempted (492), assists (348) and steals (92). He ranks tied for third in the NBA in scoring average, fourth in steals per game (2.09), seventh in assists per game (7.9) and 11th in minutes per game (39.1).
