All-Stars in the Community

All-Star Weekend brought out the superstars of the basketball world, and who would have thought that they were just as skilled with paintbrushes and hammers as they were on the hardwood! There were numerous community events scheduled throughout the week leading up to All-Star Weekend, and the entire Hornets organization participated all over the city. Here is a rundown of some of the places you could find the Hornets lending a hand in the community:

Gina and Andre Wright (mother and brother of Julian Wright), Charles and Robin Paul (parents of Chris Paul), Tonda Peterson (sister of Morris Peterson), Hugh Weber (Hornets President) Hugo and Honeybees joined NBA legends and other local celebrities for the NBA Cares Reading Caravan. The group visited Martin Behrman Charter School, Kate Middleton Elementary and Martin Luther King Jr. Charter School to read to children and promote education and literacy as part of NBA Cares’ Read to Achieve initiative. Each member of the panel gave great advice to the kids on what it takes to succeed and that reading is important in every aspect of life.

Friday kicked off the largest single-day service project the NBA has ever put on. The NBA Cares All-Star Day of Service included 10 service projects around New Orleans that more than 2,500 volunteers including Hornets staff members, All-Star participants and NBA legends.
