Salt Lake City, UT – The Utah Jazz will split their radio and television broadcast beginning with the 2005-06 season, it was announced today by Sr. Vice President of Broadcasting, Randy Rigby. “Hot” Rod Hundley and Ron Boone will finish the 2004-05 season simulcasting games on KJZZ TV, Fox Sports Net Rocky Mountain and KFAN Radio.
“We are thrilled that “Hot” Rod Hundley and Ron Boone will continue to provide great entertainment for our fans. We are also excited to add Craig Bolerjack to our broadcast team,” said Rigby. “The splitting of our broadcast will enhance the quality and entertainment value for both our radio and our television audiences for years to come.”
The team has hired Craig Bolerjack, who will become only the second play-by-play voice in the history of the Jazz franchise. Bolerjack in his seventh year as a national sportscaster for CBS, will continue his duties with the network, along with his new assignment with the Jazz. Prior to joining CBS, Bolerjack was a sports anchor at KSL-TV in Salt Lake City and a college football and basketball announcer for ESPN.
“I am thankful for the opportunity that the Jazz have given me and excited to be a part of the Jazz broadcast team,” said Bolerjack. “I am excited to work with broadcasting legend “Hot” Rod Hundley and the great player, Ron Boone. I look forward to growing with this young team and working towards a championship.”
“Hot” Rod Hundley, the only broadcaster the Jazz has ever known, will continue as the play-by-play voice on radio. In his 31st season, Hot Rod is the only remaining member of the original Jazz staff from New Orleans. Hundley calls games with a distinctive voice and unique play-by-play style that has made him instantly recognizable to audiences nationwide.
“I’ve been doing this for 38 years, I prefer the simulcast, but the way of the league is to separate both broadcasts. I am a radio broadcaster, I got my start with the legend Chick Hearn and have been broadcasting ever since,” said Hundley.
Bolerjack will team with Ron Boone who is currently in his 15th season as the Jazz analyst. The duo will serve as the broadcasting team for all Jazz broadcasts on KJZZ TV and Fox Sports Net Rocky Mountain.
“Everything I learned when I first started I learned from Rod. He’s made it fun and exciting, being two ex-players, I think we have complimented each other,” said Boone. “I am looking forward to the challenge of the TV broadcast, it is something I have always wanted to do. In addition it will be great to work mainly with Craig, who I consider a friend.”
Fans will get a preview of next year’s TV broadcast when Bolerjack and Boone call the Jazz game on Friday, February 11, as the Jazz host the Minnesota Timberwolves. “Hot” Rod Hundley will miss the game as he is inducted into the West Virginia University Alumni Association’s Academy of Distinguished Alumni. Steve Klauke will call the game for KFAN Radio.
