Salt Lake City, - UT – The Jazz have named
Tyrone Corbin as an assistant coach it was announced today by Jazz Sr. Vice President of Basketball Operations, Kevin O’Connor. Per club policy, terms of the contract were not announced.
Corbin joins the Jazz staff after serving one season as the Manager, Player Development for the New York Knicks. Prior to joining the Knicks Corbin spent two seasons with the Charleston Lowgators of the NBDL as a player mentor.
“We are excited to have Tyrone join our staff. We had tremendous respect for him as a player,” said Jazz Head Coach Jerry Sloan. “He is an upbeat guy and is an exciting individual.”
Originally drafted by the San Antonio Spurs, Corbin played for 11 teams in 16 seasons including three seasons with the Jazz. Over his 16-year NBA career Corbin played in 1,050 games and averaged 9.3 points per game in 26.2 minutes per game.
A native of Columbia, South Carolina, Corbin spent his college career at DePaul where he earned a degree in computer science. While at DePaul he averaged 11.5 points in four years including 15.8 ppg during his senior season.
