After spending every work day together for the past 16 years, it doesn't seem right if the names
John Stockton and
Karl Malone aren't linked. Like Laurel and Hardy, Bird and Magic and ham and cheese, the Utah Jazz teammates are destined to go through eternity in the same breath.
On Sunday, the two became linked in yet another way, as Malone took the floor for his 1,271st game in a Jazz uniform, which would elevate him past former Boston Celtics great John Havlicek and into second place on the list of NBA longevity with one team.
The man who's first on the list? Why, Stockton, of course, who passed Havlicek earlier this season, and has amassed 1,338 games in Utah togs, the most with one club in league history.
At the same time, Malone passed Havlicek on another list, moving into ninth place on the NBA's all-time games played list. Malone played in his 1,271st career game on Sunday, passing Havlicek, who finished his career with 1,270 games played.
Stockton (1,338 games) has played the third-most games in NBA history; Indiana's Sam Perkins (1,286 games) is ranked seventh; and Miami's A.C. Green (1,276 games, including an NBA record 1,188 consecutive games) is eighth.
