NY 99, MIN 115: Knicks Drop Back-to-Back

How it Happened

For the second straight night, the Knicks fell behind big and for the second straight night, they mounted a second half rally that managed to keep hope alive. But unlike Tuesday in Milwaukee, they were unable to cut the deficit to single digits, as the Timberwolves pulled away for a 115-99 victory at the Target Center.

Carmelo Anthony and Amar'e Stoudemire combined for 35 of the Knicks' 51 first half points, but the team struggled once again at the defensive end. Kevin Martin (37 points) led a Wolves attack that shot 49.4 percent from the field, including 11 of 22 from 3. Minnesota led by 20 after three quarters, and despite a 9-2 run keyed by Derek Fisher's bench unit, the deficit never got below 13. Neither Melo nor STAT played a minute in the fourth.

Jason Smith scored 12 of his 14 points in the final period.

Knick of the Night

Stoudemire edges out Anthony with 19 points in 20 minutes of play. With Iman Shumpert (three points on 1 for 11 shooting) struggling, STAT's contributions off the bench helped prevent Minnesota from pulling away earlier.
