Kristaps Porzingis Is Ready For The Challenge That Awaits

On Thursday night at the NBA Draft, the Knicks selected forward/center Kristaps Porzingis with No. 4 overall pick.  Porzingis is only the second player from Latvia to be picked in an NBA Draft. “For me it’s a dream come true to play for the Knicks,” Porzingis reacted at the Barclays Center.  “I wanted to see myself in this situation.  I’ve been visualizing it.  Now it’s here, and I can’t wait to be a part of this organization and get to work.”

Porzingis made the trek to the states a couple of weeks ago and instantly created shockwaves across the draft landscape as executives salivated over his upside.  The 7-footer is a mobile and athletic player with an ability to shoot all over the hardwood.  His quick release and potential to score around the rim at the next level is extremely intriguing for a Knicks squad looking to surround Carmelo Anthony with the necessary pieces to return to the postseason.

“We could not pass on Kristaps,” Knicks president Phil Jackson stated at MSG Training Center following the pick. “He has eye-opening talent and is ready for the challenge to play in New York City. He can contribute for us this season.”

New York held a private workout for Porzingis a couple of days prior to the draft.  After Karl-Anthony Towns, D’Angelo Russell, and Jahlil Okafor were off the board, the Knicks did not trade down and decided to snag one of the most enticing international prospects in years.

Porzingis is aware of the Triangle Offense and is prepared to prove all the doubters wrong.

“I think I have enough talent to be that special player, you know, who can help the franchise get better results.  I want to be that guy.”

The newest member of the orange and blue will be formally introduced Friday morning at MSG Training Center.  NYKnicks.com will have complete coverage.
