Knicks Continue Workouts, Highlighted by Jordan
The Knicks continued their intensive draft preparations on Thursday by bringing in Hofstra's Antoine Agudio, Arkansas' Gary Ervin, Vladimir Golubovic out of Serbia, Massachusetts' Dante Milligan, Texas A&M's DeAndre Jordan and Iowa State's Mike Taylor for workouts out at the MSG Training Center. The biggest name among these prospects was Jordan, whom draft pundits believe possesses one of the top skill sets in next week's draft. Jordan averaged 7.9 points, six rebounds and 1.3 blocks in just 20.1 minutes per game off the bench at Texas A&M, leading the Aggies in total blocks (44), rebounding and field goal percentage (61.7%). He was also instrumental in guiding Texas A&M into the NCAA Tournament, which Jordan calls the highlight of his young career. "You watch it, even when you're a little kid being like, 'Wow, I wish I could play in that. I wish I could go to a game.' But when you're actually on the floor playing, that was great."
During the season, scouts often compared the Aggies' freshman center was often compared to Dwight Howard. Measuring in at 7-foot-0, 260-pounds, he plays a similar athletic, explosive style as the Orlando Magic star.
Jordan admitted after his workout on Thursday that he has implemented part of Howard's game into his own repertoire. "I have two favorite players -- Kevin Garnett and Dwight Howard," he said. "I try to take whatever they have and put it in my game a little bit." With just one year of college experience under his belt, Jordan today is just as raw and full of potential as Howard was coming out of high school. Still, Jordan is not without his critics, who question whether or not he will ever live up to his tantalizing talent in the way that Howard has. "I'm coming out, working, and trying to prove everybody wrong," he said on Thursday. "My shot's gotten a lot better. (I also want to show) just how hard I play and how competitive I am. I just want to win." Jordan got that chance to meet with the Knicks, following previous workouts he said he had with Memphis, Charlotte, Indiana, Minnesota and New Jersey. "It was great," said Jordan of his Knicks workout. "It was more up-tempo (than the others), a lot of competition, and just showing what kind of heart you have basically. We all came out, competed, went at each other and had a good workout. … We did a lot of ball handling, a lot of shooting, and some live competition so it was good." While Jordan still plans to work out for Seattle, he couldn't help but acknowledge how special it would be to suit up for the Knicks. "It would be great," he said. "It's a legendary team and a legendary arena to play in every day. I've just got to take it and use it."
