How It Happened
The Knicks' season opener did not go as planned, as Chicago came into Madison Square Garden and left with a 104-80 win.
Amar'e Stoudemire earned a spot in the starting lineup from coach Derek Fisher, and he responded with eight points in the first quarter. But the Knicks' offense was never able to get going, and only Carmelo Anthony (14 points, four rebounds, three assists) was able to join Stoudemire in double figures over the course of the game. The team as a whole shot 36 percent from the field on the night.
Knick of the Night
Stoudemire wins the honor for his efficient scoring (12 points on 5-for-9 from the field) and work on the glass (team-high eight rebounds).
News & Notes
Fisher announced Jose Calderon as the starting point guard, but announced about 30 minutes before game time that Calderon's calf was not quite ready and that Shane Larkin would start in his place. Calderon's status for tomorrow night in Cleveland is to be determined.
Next Up
The Knicks travel to Ohio to play the Cavaliers in LeBron James' first game back in Cleveland. It should be an electric atmosphere, and Fisher's squad will look to bounce back from tonight's disappointing loss.
