NY 95, SA 109: Spurs 3rd Quarter Explosion Sinks Knicks

How it Happened

After a competitive first half, the Knicks ran out of gas on the second night of a back-to-back in San Antonio. Playing without Carmelo Anthony (knee) and J.R. Smith (heel), they shot over 57 percent from the field in the first half, but the Spurs made their adjustments to outscore New York, 38-21, in the third quarter en route to a 109-95 win.

Tim Hardaway Jr. got the start with Smith out, and he responded with 23 points in 29 minutes. With Hardaway attacking, New York was able to move the ball and knock down shots before halftime. Jason Smith (14 points), and Cole Aldrich (10) added punch off the bench as two of the nine Knicks to score six or more points.

After playing 32 minutes in New Orleans on Tuesday, Amar'e Stoudemire was limited to 17 minutes tonight. He scored eight points.

Knick of the Night

Hardaway was locked in on the offensive end from start to finish. He connected on 4 of 7 from 3, opening up the floor for teammates like Smith, Travis Wear (six points) and Pablo Prigioni (eight) to score from the perimeter.

Game Notes

Gregg Popovich rested Tony Parker, Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Kawhi Leonard for the game.
