ORLANDO -- The home portion of the Orlando Magic’s preseason schedule for the upcoming season will feature a bit of an international flair and a heavy dose of nostalgia.

A day after the NBA unveiled its 2014-15 NBA schedule, the Magic released a preseason slate that features home games against a Brazilian powerhouse and the return of three people key to Orlando’s run to the 2009 NBA Finals and the 2010 Eastern Conference Finals.

PRESEASON SCHEDULE: HOME GAMES AT AMWAY CENTER IN ALL CAPS

Oct. 7 @ Miami 7:30 p.m.

Oct. 10 @ Indiana 7 p.m.

Oct. 13 @ Charlotte 7 p.m.

Oct. 15 FLAMENGO (Brazil) 7 p.m.

Oct. 17 DETROIT 7 p.m.

Oct. 18 @ Philadelphia (site TBA) 7:30 p.m.

Oct. 22 HOUSTON 7 p.m.

Oct. 24 DALLAS 7 p.m.

Following three straight road games to open the preseason, the Magic will host Brazilian professional power Flamengo on Oct. 15 at the Amway Center. Flamengo, with their famed red and black striped uniforms, have been around for 119 seasons and it is the defending FIBA Americas champions of 2014. The squad, which was one the home club for basketball Hall of Famer Oscar Schmidt, features American center Jerome Meyinsse and Walter Hermann, a 2007 All-Rookie second-team member while playing for the Charlotte Bobcats.

The Magic will then play preseason home games against the Detroit Pistons (Oct. 17), Houston Rockets (Oct. 22) and Dallas Mavericks (Oct. 24). Those games will be significant for the returns of Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy, Rockets center Dwight Howard and Mavericks point guard Jameer Nelson. The three of them were together in Orlando at a time when the Magic made the playoffs six straight seasons, reached the 2009 NBA Finals and got back to the East Finals in 2010. Van Gundy was fired and Howard was traded following the 2011-12 season, while Nelson was released in July following a 10-year run with the Magic.

Orlando opens the preseason with three straight road games – in Miami (Oct. 7), in Indiana (Oct. 10) and in Charlotte (Oct. 13) – something that it must get used to considering that six of the first nine and 16 of 23 games to open the regular season will be away from home.

The Magic will also face the Philadelphia 76ers a location TBD on Oct. 18.

The Magic open training camp at the Amway Center on Sept. 30. They will open the regular season on Oct. 28 in New Orleans and then face the Washington Wizards in home opener on Oct. 30.

The Magic spent much of the offseason revamping the roster through the draft, trades and free agency. The preseason will showcase the Orlando debuts of NBA veterans Channing Frye, Ben Gordon, Evan Fournier, Luke Ridnour and Willie Green and rookies Aaron Gordon, Elfrid Payton and Devyn Marble.

Frye and Gordon were free-agent signings to bolster the team’s outside shooting, the versatile Fournier was acquired in a draft-day trade with the Denver Nuggets and Green was claimed off waivers from the Los Angeles Clippers. Gordon was the No. 4 pick in the draft, Payton was acquired in a trade after being picked No. 10 and Marble was snagged in the second round.

Magic season tickets, partial plans, group and single-game Amway Center suite rental opportunities are on sale now. Ticket highlights for the 2014-15 season in the Amway Center, honored with TheStadiumBusiness Awards’ 2013 Customer Experience Award and named SportsBusiness Journal's 2012 Sports Facility of the Year, include: 2,500 seats priced $20 or less, 8,000 seats priced $40 or less and 9,000 seats priced $50 or under.
