Anthony Named Western Conf. Player of the Week
Nuggets forward earns his second Player of the Week honor this season

DENVER, Mar. 31 -- Denver Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony was named Western Conference Player of the Week for games played from Monday, March 24 through Sunday, March 30, the NBA announced today.

Anthony, who ranks fourth in the NBA in scoring at 25.6 ppg, was also named Western Conference Player of the Week earlier this season for games played from Monday, Dec. 17 through Sunday, Dec. 23.

For the week, he averaged 26.7 ppg, 8.7 rpg and 6.3 apg in three games last week as the Nuggets went 3-0, leading Denver to wins over Dallas and Golden State putting them in sole possession of a Western Conference playoff spot for the first time since February 22. Against Dallas on 3/27, Anthony scored his 9,000th career point becoming the second youngest player in NBA history to reach that milestone behind only LeBron James.

Anthony has now garnered eight Player of the Week honors in his four-plus seasons in the NBA – eclipsing Alex English’s team record of seven. Anthony received the award twice during his rookie season (weeks ending March 14 and April 11, 2004), once during the 2005-06 season for the week ending March 19, and three times last season (weeks ending Nov. 26, Dec. 3 and Feb. 11).

Both Anthony and teammate Allen Iverson have now been honored as Player of the Week twice this season.
