Community Relations Policy

The Detroit Pistons will answer all requests, solicitations or suggestions for community programs and events. All requests or proposals must be submitted in writing on the organization’s letterhead at least 6 weeks prior to the event. Requests should be as brief as possible and present the necessary facts about the organization and event for which support is being sought. Requests are limited to one request per organization within a twelve-month period.

Eligibility

The Pistons provide fundraising resources such as prizes, giveaways, raffle and auction items to help raise funds for non-profit, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organizations in the state of Michigan each season.

Resources include:

  • Autographed team memorabilia for fundraising projects
  • Ticket opportunities for youth organizations

    Memorabilia

    All requests for autographed memorabilia are limited to auction and/or raffle activities designed to raise funds for non-profit, tax-exempt organizations in Michigan that have a 501(c)(3) Internal Revenue Service designation. It is our policy not to donate autographed merchandise or tickets to be used as prizes, volunteer recognition gifts or giveaways. Requests for a non-profit’s operating expenses are not considered.

    Tickets

    On occasion throughout the season, the Pistons have the opportunity to host youth organizations at games. Organizations must be non-profit with a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) IRS designation and be located in the state of Michigan.

    Non-Eligible Candidates:

  • Individuals/personal requests
  • Political organizations, campaigns or candidates seeking public office
  • Trips and Tours
  • Seminars
  • Organizations outside of the state of Michigan

    Processing Your Request

    The Pistons Community Relations Department will make every effort to process your request within 1-2 weeks prior to your event. All decisions made by the Pistons Community Relations Department are final.

    Following Up

    We ask that organizations, which receive a donation from the Pistons, return the follow-up report specifying the amount raised by our donation and the amount raised through the fundraising event. This report should be submitted to the Community Relations Department at the above address within one month of completion of your fundraising event. This information must be received in order to be eligible for a donation the following calendar year.
