Pistons vs. Heat
Postgame Quotes - October 8, 2007

Detroit: Flip Saunders | Chauncey Billups | Jarvis Hayes
Miami: Pat Riley | Marcus Slaughter

Pistons Head Coach Flip Saunders
(On the game) “I think overall with the things that we worked on in training camp, we were extremely effective especially in the first half. You saw what we talked about the young guys that give great energy. It really gives a different look both offensively and defensively. I think overall right now there is a comfort level playing those guys because they make plays, they’re intelligent and they play hard.”

(On Arron Affalo) “He had some plays where he did things that maybe don’t show up in the box scores but he gets outs and runs the wing hard where they have to cover him and it opens things up for somebody else, so he actually made some plays for other players.”

(On being aggressive) “I think that was something we stressed in our training camp was our ability to be aggressive and not let teams take breaks.”

(On Jarvis Hayes) “He’s a good shooter. Shooters are supposed to shoot…he has the ability to not only play outside but also post up inside and rebound the basketball.”

Pistons Guard Chauncey Billups
(On Rodney Stuckey) “He's similar to D. Wade. That's when he's at his best when he's attacking and keeping pressure on the defense.”

Pistons Forward Jarvis Hayes
"I thought we played well as a team, we played really good defense and executed on offense"

Heat Head Coach Pat Riley
“In all the areas, points, paint, second chance points and fast break points were basically the game. A lot of it had to with missed jumpers and they really broke on us and the soft trap got us out of sync. We had some players that played well and one of the most difficult things is to see how they play with your best players and that is what we aren’t going to find out for awhile. Detroit played with a lot of depth and quickness with their young guys. When you play these young guys with the others they get a lot of confidence, but Detroit looked very solid.”

Heat Forward Marcus Slaughter
(On play) “Every game you are going to expect energy out of me and effort. That is something that coach has been talking about all camp and that is what I’m going to bring every day.”

(On position) “Position wise coaches say that I’m a player, so there is no specific position, but I play the four and three and I match up either way. Tonight was a good game, but there is a lot of mental mistakes that we made and a lot from my part. So we are going to go back and look at tape and correct a lot of things. I’m not here looking to be the star, we have Wade and O’Neal. I’m just looking to be a piece of the puzzle.”
