On Arizona Sports: Babby on Knight, Suns' Youth

Perspective is everything. The Suns are barely on the outside looking in on the Western Conference playoff, essentially the same position in which they found themselves a year ago.

Yet recent trades have emphasized a quality that Suns President of Basketball Operations Lon Babby served up as a reminder on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM: the Suns are extremely young.

"The one thing that happened since the trade deadline is we've gotten even younger," Babby said. "When you put it in that context of the age of our team and the extreme lack of experience of our team -- and the fact that we still have a winning record and I think we will continue to compete and play hard every night -- that to me bodes extremely for the future. I just think sometimes we lose sight of where we are as an organization. You have to remind people that Brandon Knight's 23 and Bledsoe's 25 and [Markieff Morris] is 25 and Alex Len is 21 and Archie [Goodwin] is 20 and T.J. Warren is 21. Those are young guys who are just starting their careers, really."

One of those young players' personalities, however, appears to exceed his age. Brandon Knight's desire to communicate with his teammates and plan for the opposition has already impressed the franchise.

"He's very smart, and I expect he will raise the professionalism of our team [and] the level of preparation," Babby said. "He wants to be extremely well prepared. He's a student of the game. As he gets more comfortable here, I think his leadership role will expand. For a young guy, 23 years old, it's very, very impressive."
