What Went Well
Like fellow youngsters and 2013 draftees Archie Goodwin and Alex Len, Bullock intrigued the Suns with his untapped potential and an already-established skill set (three-point shooting and defense). Unlike Len and Goodwin, Bullock plays at a position already overflowing on the roster (shooting guard/small forward).
Phoenix didn't let that stop his individual progress. The Suns assigned him to Bakersfield, their D-League affiliate, so the second-year swingman could improve in real game minutes and situations. The results were encouraging. Bullock averaged 23.8 points, 9.8 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.3 blocks per contest while shooting 46.2 percent from downtown in four games with the Jam. That kind of potential is why Phoenix is thrilled to have him on the roster.
What Could Be Improved
Suns Head Coach Jeff Hornacek likes to see young players work well within the team's offensive schemes before handing them significant roles. Goodwin showed progress and subsequently earned time because of progressing in that area, and Bullock can do the same next season.
Summer league will be an option for Bullock to further integrate himself with his new team, and his role would be significant in Las Vegas. He also has the option of working out with teammates in Phoenix during the majority of the offseason, something most of the Suns' younger players did last summer.
Notable Advanced Stat: Bullock's defensive potential showed strongly despite limited playing time this season. In his 30 games played this season, his defensive assignments shot 7.3 percent worse than normal.
