Join Gilbert Arenas, along with several of his teammates, and Magic Johnson at Freddie Mac’s Hoops for the Homeless Saturday, September 13 at the Verizon Center. Freddie Mac’s Hoops for the Homeless --- a basketball tournament and family event with Arenas, Magic and a host of other celebrities --- has raised millions to help homeless children and families in our region. It’s an exciting day, with the chance for autographs and some great prizes. And there’s children’s entertainment, including a slam dunk clinic, and Hoops too!

Caron Butler hosted a fun-filled weekend in Wisconsin on June 13-15 with the purpose of giving back to his hometown of Racine. A two-time All-Star, Butler's 3D Summer Explosion Weekend featured a schedule of events and activities for the youth of Racine.
Washington Wizards forward Darius Songaila participated in a ‘Reading Time-Out’ with the sixth grade students of Glynnis Ogbogu’s class at Skyline Elementary School on Friday, April 4 at 11:00 a.m. Songaila read a book to the students and then conducted a question and answer session immediately following the reading program.
Get in the game and join your Washington Wizards in helping to prevent malaria in Africa. NBA Cares and Nothing But Nets need your help to deliver life-saving bed nets to families in Africa. A ten-dollar donation to Nothing But Nets will provide a bed net to protect children and their families from the disease.
The Washington Wizards hosted their team fundraiser "The Ballers Bowl" at Lucky Strike Lanes in Chinatown. The event allowed season ticket holders and team sponsors the opportunity to meet with the Wizards players as well as the chance to bid on several pieces of Wizards and other sports memorabilia in an open auction, with all proceeds going to Washington Sports and Entertainment Charities, Inc.
In honor of Black History Month, and in partnership with Verizon Wireless and Southwest Airlines, the Washington Wizards gave students the opportunity to celebrate the history, accomplishments, and impact of African-Americans Inventors through the 2007-2008 Black History Month Art Contest.
The Washington Wizards partnered with the Crystal City BID to sponsor a plane for their Crystal Flight project. Wizards players helped decorate the plane at Verizon Center on Tuesday, March 4. Crystal Flight is a part of the Crystal City BID’s six-month “Celebration of Flight”, which highlights the areas connection to aviation. Each Crystal Flight plane will be sponsored by an area business, designed and decorated by local artists, and then placed throughout Crystal City.
CareFirst is sponsoring the "Community Threes" initiative for the fourth consecutive season. For every three-point shot made by a Wizards’ player this season, CareFirst is donating $100 to the DC Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy. The mission of the DC Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy is to improve the lives and well being of adolescents in Washington, DC.
This holiday season the Washington Wizards performed twelve random acts of holiday cheer around the Washington, DC community, beginning December 1st and ending on December 23rd.
Wizards Host First Blanket Drive
On Saturday, January 12th the Washington Wizards held their first blanket drive. The Wizards collected 500 new blankets for families in need this winter. All fans that turned in a blanket received a complimentary ticket to the Washington Wizards-Dallas Mavericks game on January 21st.
Caron Butler Hosts Second Annual Coat Drive
On December 29th, the Washington Wizards' Caron Butler hosted his second annual Caron's Coats for Kids Drive. Over 800 coats where donated to help ensure every child has a warm coat for the winter months. All fans that donated a coat received a coupon for a free ticket to the upcoming Washington Wizards vs. Seattle Supersonics game held on January 6, 2008.
The Washington Wizards owners Irene and Abe Pollin in collaboration with DC City Council member Marion Barry, donated junior varsity and varsity boys and girls basketball uniforms to three schools in the Washington, DC area. The three high schools, Anacostia, Spingarn, and Ballou, attended last night's game and were presented with the jerseys that were donated by Mr. and Mrs. Pollin.
Members of the Washington Wizards and Washington Capitals visited Andrews Air Force Base on Tuesday, November 13, 2007. The players, coaches and dance team members served a pre-holiday meal and also visit wounded heroes returning to the United States from Iraq and Afghanistan.
Verizon Center is launching its year-long tenth anniversary campaign on Thursday, September 27 at 9:30 a.m. at Spingarn High School with a Community Service Day makeover. Team personnel, players and staff members from the Washington Wizards, Washington Mystics, Washington Capitals and Verizon Center helped paint Spingarn High School’s gym and landscaped the exterior of the school.
Washington Wizards All-Star forward Caron Butler and forward Andray Blatche visited with 40 injured soldiers and their families at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, September 25.

Wizards All-Star forward Caron Butler is continuing to make his presence felt in his hometown of Racine, Wisconsin. Butler traveled back to Racine, Wisconsin to present a check for $5,000 to the Cops-N-Kids Center.
Wizards forward/center Oleksiy Pecherov participated in the Annual Washington Area Ukrainian Festival on Saturday, September 8 in Silver Spring, Maryland. Pecherov was joined by Ukrainian Ambassador Oleh Shamshur in the opening ceremonies.
